5 Card Stud Poker Rules

5 card stud is another variation of 7-Card Stud stud but it is not as popular! There is only a couple of difference between the two games so the rules are still the same. Here is how to play!

  1. Firstly each player places the blinds and the antes, they are determined before the game starts. Each player is then dealt two cards. One card is dealt face down and the other card is dealt face up!

  2. There is then the first round of betting. The person who has the highest value card that is face up to the rest of the players makes the bet first.

  3. After the betting another card is then dealt face up to each player.

  4. Another round of betting takes place, and another card is dealt face up to each player.

  5. Another round of betting takes place, and the final card is dealt face up to each player.

  6. There is another round of betting, with the betting minimums/maximums typically doubled during this final round.

  7. The winning hand is determined the same as all poker, best 5 cards

Betting Note: Unlike Texas Hold'em or Omaha where betting starts to the left of the dealer, in any Stud game the player with the highest ranking hand showing amongst their face up cards bets first for that round, with the bet then moving clockwise around the table.

When the betting is over, the hands are called and it's time to see the hands - the player with the highest total hand wins the pot.
