Basic Poker Strategy - Poker Tips

You can't run before you can walk and like everything else poker is the same. It's always best to start of with lower stake or even free play games until you get the hang of the rules and find a few tricks of your own before advancing to the bigger tables where the wins are bigger but so are the stakes.

Never play the same way twice. Always change your style of play this way other players won't be able to assume your next move and catch you out. You want to catch them out to change from a tight to loose player, change from a bluffer to a player that only plays good hands. Whatever you do don't play the same way all the time.

Once other players know what you're up to you can kiss goodbye to your money. As soon as you notice that you're losing out on pots more often then its time to re think your strategy and stop these players from stealing all your cash.

You don't always have to call every hand. There are times when folding is good for you. Players that call every hand are known as loose players whereas players who tend to only go in on hands where they have a good hand are known as tight players. The best thing that you can do is to find a happy medium and stick to it.

Try to stay at the same table with the same players for as long as you can. You can't expect to work everyone's strategy out in seconds so the more time that you spend at one table with the same people the more chance of winning that you will actually have.

Winning at poker is not about winning every hand it's about leaving the table with more chips than you had when you sat down. There are times when you must accept your looses and look at the bigger picture of the game. You may loose out this time but next time you may scoop a pot twice the size.

There is nothing worse than leaving a table empty handed. There is only two ways to prevent this. You need to win but you also need to have enough chips to make sure that you can do this. It is recommended that you have at least 40 or 50 times the amount of the table limit to bet with. This means that you can comfortably fold when the blinds are bigger so that you can play god hands properly. Never run out of even start to run out of chips without buying more in. There are times when having a small amount of chips will go in your favour but more likely than not many of the players will try to bully you out by raising so that you cannot play but still have to fork out for the blinds.

Just remember the strength of your hand and the size of the pot and you should be fine. Keep in mind that with five card hands even low hands are hard to get so at a table of six you can still be in with a good chance but as the stakes get higher and the games get fiercer you can be sure that if there are only two or three of you in the hand it is likely that the players have high hands so bluffing isn't always advised.

The most important thing to remember is that playing poker online is all about having fun. It's about joining the online community of gamers who enjoy meeting new people and enjoying their hobby in the comfort of their own home and even for free.

As you can see, in a game like Texas Hold'em with only five cards dealt and no 'drops' or wildcards - even low hands can be hard to achieve. So while a single pair isn't hard to find when there's 6 players at a table, even a low two pair is a strong hand and should be treated accordingly.
